Painting is what Jon does but not necessarily who he is, being a true believer in work life balance. Jon paints for the sheer pleasure it gives him. His paintings reveal an intensely inquisitive mind. This explains why Jon is painting in various media and styles. He is competent with watercolour, oil, acrylic and pastels.  Jon’s works vary between traditional to contemporary. He sometimes uses a minimal tonal palette and yet at other times displays a staccato burst of vibrant colours.

Jon loves travelling and it provides him with a rich source of experience and references. He prefers painting en plein air but works in his studio for larger pieces. Jon tries to capture the mood of the moment in time with visceral impact.

Jon exhibits widely in group shows but his solo exhibitions are very well received and has works represented both in Australia and abroad.

Jon worked as a graphic artist for two years after his graduation. He spent more than 30 years teaching art and graphics. Retired from teaching more than 15 years ago, Jon has accelerated his practice as a full time artist with great success having won over 40 awards to date.

Originally based in Melbourne, Jon now lives in Alfredton (Ballarat) since October 2019. Four time finalist of The Rochester Mural Festival, his 2016 winning mural is on permanent display in Northern Highway, Rochester. Jon has works in municipal and private collections. His work has been published on the cover of the Art Education magazine and has appeared in the Australian Artist magazine on various occasions. Jon conducts workshops both in Melbourne and regional area. He tutors Pen, Ink and Watercolour at Box Hill Art Group.
